Nvidia introduces RTX 3080 to laptops on January 26th

Less than six months after introducing the RTX 3000 series GPUs for desktop computers, Nvidia is bringing the RTX 3060, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 to its gaming laptops. Nvidia promises significant energy efficiency gains here, thanks to the new Ampere architecture, along with visible performance improvements over previous RTX 2000 series laptops.

More than 70 gaming laptops will be available with the new RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 mobile GPUs on January 26, with the RTX 3060 laptops to follow on February 2. Prices start at $ 999 for the RTX 3060.

The RTX 3060 laptops, which Nvidia says are 1.3 times faster than the PS5, start at $ 999. The RTX 3070 laptops will start at $ 1,299, and Nvidia says it’s up to 1.5 times faster than previous RTX 2070 systems, and delivers 90 frames per second at 1,440p.

RTX 3080 laptops start at $ 1,999 and can include up to 16GB of GDDR6 memory – more than is available on the RTX 3080 desktop GPU side. Nvidia claims these laptops will save over 100 frames Per second at 1440 pixels.

These laptops use Nvidia’s third generation Max-Q. Designed for thinner and lighter gaming laptops, the Max-Q variants are designed to extract the most GPU power from the RTX 3000 series card into a more thermally restrictive chassis. Nvidia and laptop manufacturers are tweaking drivers and thermal and electrical components to make this a reality.

Nvidia says this latest generation Max-Q laptop will deliver twice the performance of the previous generation. Nvidia uses new Dynamic Boost 2.0 technology in these mobile devices that use artificial intelligence to balance power between the CPU, GPU, and GPU memory. It works on a per frame basis, which means your laptop can balance its power needs in real time.

These RTX 3080 laptops should be powerful enough to handle Microsoft Flight Simulator, which is a demanding title. Nvidia demonstrated Razer Blade 15 to run the full Flight Simulator platform during the CES keynote today.

Nvidia also introduces WhisperMode 2.0 with the RTX 3000 Series laptops. You will be able to choose different volume levels, and the AI will manage fan speeds and game settings to stay at the desired volume level.

We expect to hear from many manufacturers soon about new updates for gaming laptops at CES 2021. Stay tuned for more. the edge For all the latest mobile game announcements.
